The emblem shows goddess Athena turned to the right. She wears an Attic-type helmet with a crest that rises from a Pegasus and aegis decorated with a Gorgon head over her bosom. Discerned behind her head are her shield and spear. A circle with floral motifs frames the bust and traces of red paint are retained all over the surface.
The phiale belongs to a pottery class that begins being produced in the 3rd cent. BC, imitates mainly similar metal vessels of the time and continues down to the Roman period. Their floor bears elaborate relief decoration with themes inspired by mythology, scenes related to the worship of Dionysos and the adventures of gods and heroes.
